The Fourth World Congress of Existential Therapy will be held at the Hyatt Regency Aurora-Denver Conference Center in Aurora, Colorado, which is about 10 miles from downtown Denver and about 15 miles from the Denver International Airport.

Hotel Room Information

There are a limited number of rooms reserved for our conference, so if you would like to stay in the Hyatt Regency, where the conference is located, it will be important to make your reservations early. There are additional hotels within walking distance of the conference center. These rooms are reserved for June 3-6 at a special conference rate of $199-249 per room, depending upon the room selected and the number of guests. This discounted rate will be available for 2 days prior to and after the conference.

The Hyatt Regency has an outdoor swimming pool and a 24/7 gym/fitness center. There are also walking trails nearby the hotel. The Hyatt has outside meeting spaces, including some with fireplaces for the cooler Colorado mountain evenings. The Anschutz Medical Campus, which is home to the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Colorado Children’s Hospital, is just over 1 mile away. The Stanley Marketplace, a popular local attraction with many shops and restaurants, is just over 3 miles away. The hotel is near public transportation options to explore other attractions in the Denver metro area.

Meals at the Conference

We will have meal ticket options available with registration that will allow attendees and family members to eat at the hotel. Meals at the hotel will include vegetarian options. We strongly encourage individuals to have most of their meals at the hotel. While there are a number of restaurant options within walking distance of the Conference Center, there could be longer wait times given the number of attendees anticipated. Eating at the hotel will allow time for networking and community building, and it will help assure that you will not miss out on sessions due to longer wait times at nearby restaurants.

We will provide information on local restaurants and attractions closer to the date of the Congress.

Altitude

Colorado is widely known as one of the most beautiful places in the world, largely because of the mountains that cover much of the state. Being prepared for some of the unique aspects of Colorado can help you enjoy the trip more.

Denver is known as the “mile-high city.” Located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, it is at an altitude of 5,280 feet (1,609 meters). While altitude sickness is less common in Denver than in the nearby mountains, many people do experience some adjustment to the higher altitude, especially for the first 1-2 days. It is important to drink lots of water, including on your way to Denver, if coming from lower altitudes. You may want to adjust your exercise routine as the effects of exercise can be more intense in higher altitudes. Colorado is also known for “300 days of shine” (over 300 days of sunshine) and, due to the higher altitude, the sun is more intense. It is good to have sunscreen and dress in layers, which can help protect you from the sun and adjust to quickly changing temperatures, particularly as the sun goes down in the evening. Even on warm days, the evenings can quickly become cool. In the springtime, afternoon and evening rain showers are common, so it is good to bring an umbrella and/or raincoat. Some people also find that alcohol impacts them more intensely in higher altitudes, especially during the first couple of days of adjustment.

If you are planning to spend some time in the mountains–and we hope you do!–it may be better to do this after the Congress, which can give you a few days to adjust to the higher altitude before going to even higher altitudes.

We will have a welcome package when you register for the conference that will include some items to help you adjust to the altitude, such as chapstick/lip balm, lotion, and water bottles.
